Spring is in the Air! Do You Feel Like Quitting?

I just felt a sigh in the air as we wrap up this school year.

I know that many parents are deciding whether they want to do this again next year.

It’s the end of spring, the battle lines have been crossed many times.  You are frazzled, your kids don’t want to see another book.

AND You have not finished the book, and some may think this makes them a failure.  Surprise!  No one finishes the book.

You wonder if the battle is worth it.  If the lack of funds is worth it.  If the family can afford to do this again.

For those of you who wonder if it’s worth it, I suggest going to one of the Homeschool graduations in your area.  These are the best perk ups around.  You see young adults launching out.  Some graduation allow the YA’s story to be told, and you hear how the family struggled and overcame.  If they have tables with the teen’s awards, you see that over 12 years it does add up.

If you are wondering about how to afford it, did you know there are ways to do this for free?  Many homeschoolers teach their children with just a computer and library card.  This may mean that you have to actually teach your children and not drop them at co-ops.  But you know what?  Both of you grow and learn when you teach them.
If it’s the battle (particularly if you have a tween/teen) then take the summer off.
Have fun,
be a Mom,
love them,
hug them,
pray for them.
Make your decision about homeschooling after July 4th, when you are more rested.

So take a moment and see how far your children have come.  Don’t look at what was not done this year, look at what you did.  I know a Mom who made a scrap book for her sons for each year of their homeschool adventure.  Once she made the book, she knew her boys had grown, reaching another level that year.  Whatever you do, look at your Facebook wall, check your photos, make a scrapbook, look at last year’s writing samples, do something to see how far you and the children have come.

It’s Spring, time to celebrate.
Decisions can wait until after you have had some rest.
Hug those kids!!

DFW Curriculum Sales

 PEACH Used Book Sale   

Our Annual PEACH Used Book Sale will be hosted in Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the church of Christ on McDermott Road

PEACH members can reserve a table for $3 and non-members may reserve a table for $5 to sell books. We encourage you to team up with another person to sell books.

Volunteers assist in setting up tables and chairs beginning at 10am and and to break down and clean up at 3pm.
Arrival time is 10AM for volunteers to stack chairs and set out tables. Sellers may arrive at anytime prior to 10 AM to pay their money, lay out their books, sell to workers, and still hold the sale from 12

The public will enter at 12:00 and shop until 3:00 PM. All shoppers will pay $1 to enter to offset the cost of building expense.
Identify books as you prefer, but please label everything for your own protection. You will handle all sales and all monies so have plenty of one dollar bills on hand.

Free items from the outside tables must be taken out to the car before entering.

Each seller may sell as soon as you are set up and you may leave after you break down your table and return it to our storage closet.

RHSA’s Annual Used Book Sale!

Friday May 2, 2014 6:00 to 8:30pm

Location: Waterview Church of Christ, 1409 N. Waterview Drive, Richardson, TX 75080. (West side of Waterview between Arapaho and Campbell)

There will be hundreds and hundreds of books for homeschooling:
Student texts, teacher’s guides and more from a wide variety of publishers
How-to books on homeschooling and many other topics for parents and children
Other resources, such as maps, math manipulatives, visual aids, and learning games
Sorted into grade levels and categories to make it easy to find your way

RHSA members and non-members can sell: Materials drop-off time is between 3:00pm and 5:00pm on Friday afternoon. See the Book Sale Flyer for important information on how to prepare materials for sale.

RHSA members and non-members can buy: The sale starts at 6:00pm and runs until 8:30. All prices are in whole dollars. You will pay the sellers  directly by either writing checks or paying cash. Bring lots of $1 bills because no change will be made (trust us, it just works much more smoothly that way). See the Book Sale Flyer for important information on how to prepare to have a good buying experience at the sale.

We will have a membership sign-up table at the meeting for non-members wishing to join RHSA.

Come to find the books you need for less money. Come to browse. Come to fellowship with other home school parents.

Come out to Minute Maid Park and get a behind the scenes look at what it takes to run your Houston Astros baseball team! This fun and educational field trip caters to students of all grade levels!
Elementary School Students

Science Hack Day in Houston

Science Hack Day Houston is going on. April 5th & 6th, 2014 at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.   Science Hack Day is an event dedicated to hacking and tinkering with science related projects. You can find more information here.
