Hooded Beach Towel

Hello!  I made hooded beach towels for all five of my kids. Four of them just finished two weeks of swimming lessons in the evening. As the sun would set, it would get very breezy and it was chilly when they exited the water. I was glad to have the hooded beach towels.  They are so SIMPLE and FAST! You only have to sew two seams.
Supplies:
One beach towel
One hand towel which will coordinate with the beach towel (I couldn't find matching ones for the beach towels, so I bought a sold color that matched the beach towel and it looked good)
Access to a sewing machine

Directions:
Lay beach towel flat. On the long edge, lay the hand towel so that the longest sides of both towels are touching. Center the hand towel on the beach towel. It should look as if you have two different rectangles stacked on top of one another with the longest sides touching and the smaller of the two rectangles is centered on the top of the larger rectangles.

Pin the right sides together and sew a 1/2" seam.

Now, looking at the above diagram, take the corners that are at the very top of the diagram (on the unsewn side of the hand towel) and bring them together so that the right sides of the towel are touching. In order to bring those corners together, you will have to fold the towel.  The second seam will be from the two corners to the fold you just made, Basically, you are sewing on the very top edge of the hand towel (diagram.) (This seam will be at a 90 degree angle to the first seam you made). Again, pin and sew a 1/2" seam the entire way across this edge.

You are finished! Fix the beach towel so that the right side is out and push your hand down into the hand towel so the seam is on the inside and it should form a hood. Enjoy!

I am considering having the hoods monogrammed with their names and do plan to sew on their swim lesson completion passes and swim team patches on the hood, also.

I sincerely hope that you can understand the directions. If not email me privately and we can plan to visit by phone or I can make a sample out of paper and send it to you. It is really nifty and takes about two minutes to make.
