A Prayer for My Children by Paula Iaconis
Show me, O Lord, how to bring up the children who have been given to
me.
(Judges 13:8)
May my children heed correction, Showing prudence. (Prov. 15:5)
May they heed correction and be honored. (Prov. 13:18)
Let us as a family remember that it is better to have a meal of
vegetables where there is love, than a fattened calf with hatred.
(Prov.
15:17)
May my children's thoughts be of the pure that are pleasing to You.
(Prov. 15:26)
May they live by Your Spirit, oh God. (Zech. 4:6)
May they administer true justice and show mercy and compassion to
one Another. (Zech. 7:9-10)
May they each know that a good name is more desirable than riches;
to be esteemed is better than silver or gold. (Prov. 22:1)
May they grow in humility and fear of You Lord, for these bring
wealth and honor and life. (Prov. 22:4)
Give me the strength oh God to train up my children in the way they
should go, and know that when they are old they will not depart from
it. (Prov. 22:6)
May they have pure hearts and speech that is gracious. (Prov. 22:11)
Let them be skilled in their life's work, so that they may serve
before kings, not serve before obscure men. (Prov. 22:29)
May they be sons and daughters that honor their father. (Malachi
1:6)
May they each have with You, Lord, a covenant of life and peace,
that calls for reverence, that they may revere You and stand in awe
of You. (Malachi 2:5)
May there be true instruction found in their mouths. May they walk
with You in peace and uprightness, and turn from sin. (Malachi 2:6)
May each of their marriages be to believers. (Malachi 2:11)
May You act as a witness between each child and the partner of their
youth, that they may never break faith with their partners. (Malachi
2:14)
And may You, Lord, make them one with their spouses, and in flesh
and spirit Yours. (Malachi 2:15)
May they each bring the whole tithe into the storehouse that there
may be food in Your house, Lord. May they test You in this, Lord, so
that they may see You throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour
out so much blessing that they will not have room for it all.
(Malachi 3:10)
Let them worship You only, the Lord their God, and serve You only.
(Deut. 6:13)
That You would be a shield around them. (Ps. 3:3)
Let them oh God give something to eat to the hungry, something to
drink to the thirsty, hospitality to strangers, clothing to the
naked, tending to the sick, and visits to the prisoners, that they
may take their inheritance from You, God, the kingdom prepared for
them since the creation of the world. (Matt. 25:34-36)
And may you command Your angels to guard them in all of their ways.
(Ps. 91:11)
I pray this all in Jesus's name, Amen.
