Virtual Field Trips

There is a great list on Yahoogroups that will send you a virtual field trip each week.  If you have high speed connection (DLS or cable modem) these are well worth the time on raining days or snow days or days over 90 in the South or any day when the kids are doing this

Many so called Virtual tours are nothing more than a power point presentation with clickable links.  I have gone through the links collected and only added those which have actual tours online, hence the need for high speed connection.  So pick a subject and enjoy the virtual tours!

A virtual tour of milk from a diary farm to the refrigerator.

And here is a tour of a cheese factory in Wisconsin.  This is low tech, i.e. pictures and words.  If you need to increase the picture, just click on it for a larger picture.

A virtual tour of Mrs. Bairds, Texas' own bread company.  You can book a real tour on this page also.

And what goes with milk other than Hersey's Chocolate.  Since it's a bit far from Texas, this virtual tour will entertain and educate your children.  Check their education page for great resources.

The Garden with Insight garden simulator is an educational simulation that uses weather, soil, and plant growth models to simulate a simple garden in an open-ended microworld setting. You can plant vegetables and grow them to learn more about plants, the soil, the weather, gardening, and science.

Visit Yellowstone National Park in the winter without getting cold.

A virtual tour of Monticello, no video, but pictures and words.

Or the National Gallery of Art tours or Tour the White House picture or by video.

Is it a dull day, go to a National Park!  Great fun and pictures and you might even find a virtual tour in video.

Want to know what it's like to work at a newspaper?  The LA times has a virtual tour for you.

Okay, found it!  A fun site for volcano study.  Most sites are scientific in nature, this one is made for the kids.

And more fun as the kids find out how crayons are made.

Found a great site that's all about Tigers with webcams on the various types of tigers.

A site with lots of field trips, but definitely written by public teachers, so I find it a bit boring, but you may be able to make it fun.  Also, you might preview the field trips to check world view issues.
